From the front-of-house vendors to the cheery door prize presentations and the very strange dance number from Les Miserables, there is a winning good-heartedness to the whole. Tim Bates is accomplished as Mort... The full humour of this piece is brought to life by Andrew Dowling as Igneous Cutwell... A lot of energy has gone into this high-spirited production which succeeds at delivering Pratchett at his funniest. (Tim Lloyd, The Advertiser)

It is Andrew Dowling's flippant interpretation of Mage Cutwell that really stands out. With great stage presence, he earns every star on his wizard's hat. Unseen will leave you dying with laughter. (Rod Lewis, The Messenger)

The colourful characters of this production create a tapestry of fantasy, romance and humour. Danny Sag as the doorknocker (complete with full mouth) gives a particularly articulate performance. (Hayley Horton, The Adelaide Theatre Guide)

Unseen Theatre Company’s award-winning inaugural production is back by popular demand! In 2000, Mort won both critical acclaim and the Light Year Award for Best Costumes. Director Pamela Munt decided on a return season as a direct result of the insistence of Unseen’s fans.

The story is based on the novel by Terry Pratchett, British author of the immensely popular comedy-fantasy Discworld series. Here Death, the Grim Reaper, finds what he thinks is the perfect apprentice in the shape of Mort. Unfortunately Mort is a romantic. He cannot bear to harvest the soul of beautiful Princess Keli. Through his naivety, he manages to alter the whole balance of time and reality. His appeals to wizards, talking doorknockers and even to Death’s daughter Ysabell avail him not at all. Death himself must return from his “day off” and step into the breach to save the Discworld.

AUDIENCE COMMENTS:

4 stars “Andrew Dowling ROCKED!” Greg

4 stars “I have yet too see a performance of Mort more worthy of the novel itself than the one I saw several nights ago. such a performance would make Granny weatherwax sing the hedgehog song before moving on too the stick and bucket dance. well done. can’t wait for your next show.” Matthew
